Welcome to

MARCH NEWS

Today is...

The News from Mrs. Hughes
Religion this month will cover many topics, with an emphasis Lent, Holy Week, and The Triduum, focusing on renewing and repenting.    We will have the chance for Reconciliation soon. Please review with your child what to do, say and "The Act of Contrition". We will make bookmarks for our buddies for St. Patrick's Day.

We will be studying simple machines.  One of our stories is about Benjamin Franklin. We'll find out about other inventors. An Invention Convention is planned. Please look at the main page and under "Homework Helps" for links that may be helpful. The idea is having fun, taking chances and learning at the same time. It will be in April. We have our Day of Flight at the end of the month.
Math studies will include fractions, measurement, multiplication and division. More opportunities for composition, reading trade books and stories in our reader will be an important part of this month. I hope to have the children read many of the books for Scholastic Reading Counts. Please send any Dr. Seuss’ books to school  March 2nd to celebrat e his birthday.

Language Arts The students are writing persuasive  and descriptive paragraphs  as well as studying the parts of speech. Doing Madlibs is an amusing way to reinforce them. We have a lot of laughs doing this in the past!

Remember to "spring" your clocks forward!

On assessment days, students will be asked to wear a special hat
during our test. These will be known as our "Thinking Caps"
and will be worn only on these special days. This helps ease some
of the stress that may come with test taking. A reminder will be
sent home the day before the test or you can check our weekly
newsletter for a list of test dates on our calendar.

~God's Rainbow~

Rainbows appear after mighty storms,
When things look their very worst,

Just when the skies are darkest grey,
Look for the rainbow first.

The rainbow is a sign of God's promise,
That He will guide us through any storm,
That He will see us through all our troubles,
No matter what their form.
When you feel battered by life's storms,

And you are filled with doubt and dismay;
Just remember God's rainbow is coming,
It's only a prayer away.
