The
News from Mrs. Hughes
The
first week of May, is time
for Science Baboozlers. It's less formal than a science fair. Students
are to bring a science
experiment to demonstrate to the class. It's
about having fun and learning from one another. Some of the links in
"Homework Helps" might help. The science book could be another source.
We will
be studying plants, animals and recycling in
science. Social studies topics tie in nicely with protecting our
resources or
stewardship of God’s creation..This
month, in math we will study
metric units
of length, distance, mass and capacity. We will be working on geometric
figures, specifically perimeter, area and volume. We will work more on
fractions, decimals and mixed numbers, adding and subtracting
fractions,
finding multiples of 10, 100 and 1,000,
and multiplying two and three digit
numbers by a one-digit number. Won’t
we be busy?
We
will be discussing all are
the
groups in which we live including
our families, our parishes, the Archdiocese and the Church at large. We
will
talk about the Church hierarchy and our role in the church. Looking at
the
world and those in need. The class will learn
the Apostles
Creed.

April is
National Poetry Month.
This
page came about because
of a desire to incorporate poetry in a more in-depth, meaning making
way for children in my third grade class. Poetry is a wonderful way to
teach reading
and writing. Through reading and writing poetry your children will be
able to express their feelings, thoughts and imagination about silly to
serious topics.
